The oil painting "Diana, Queen of Wales" was painted by the late American artist Nelson Shanks in 1994.
Sotheby's auctioneer planned to sell the painting for up to 20,000 USD but eventually sold it for 201,600 USD.
The complete portrait was hanged in the Kensington Palace before being moved to the queen's original home in Althorp in Northamptonshire.
concubine Diana, artist Shanks and his wife Leona became close friends during the time of painting the concubine's portraits.
To complete this portrait, the beauty queen had many direct meetings, in which the beauty queen sat as a model for more than 35 hours.
In a 1994 letter to the couple, Queen Diana wrote: "I miss you and Leona in London, the studio is a safe haven, with a lot of love and support." Three years after sending the letter, consort Diana died in a car accident in Paris at the age of just 36.
