Taking advantage of the time when everyone was tired while taking care of patients and then falling asleep, Tam sneaked in to steal property but was arrested with the exhibits before leaving the hospital. On the afternoon of May 21, Long Xuyen Ward Police, (An Giang province) said that the Investigation Police Agency of the Provincial Police had issued a Decision to temporarily detain Le Thanh Tam (born in 1976, residing in My Thoi ward, An Giang province) for the act of "Theft of property".
At the police station, Tam initially confessed that because he needed money to spend, he had the intention to break into the hospital to steal. To carry out the act, at about 00:00 on May 19, 2026, Tam sneaked onto the 1st floor of An Giang General Hospital.
Discovering that in the corridor area there were many people taking care of patients who were sleeping soundly, the subject immediately approached, stole 2 mobile phones from a woman and a man and quickly left the scene. However, when Tam just went to the hospital's parking lot, he was discovered by the security force, chased, controlled and detained along with the exhibits, and then handed them over to My Binh Ward Police.
Currently, the case is being further investigated and strictly handled by functional forces in accordance with the law.
