In 2024, Binh Dinh province recorded nearly 4,000 cases and 278 outbreaks of dengue fever, an increase of more than 41% compared to 2023; 346 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease; 1 case of malaria; 2 deaths suspected of being due to rabies; 997 cases of seasonal flu; 1 case of human streptococcus suis...
Notably, 16 cases tested positive for influenza A/H1pdm, including 4 deaths (1 case in Vinh Thanh district and 3 cases in Phu My).
Binh Dinh province also recorded an increase in other infectious diseases such as measles (59 cases), Rubella (1 case), whooping cough (2 cases) and Japanese encephalitis B (1 case).
According to the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, infectious diseases in 2024 will develop complicatedly, always posing a risk of outbreaks, especially with new strains and constantly changing pathogens.
Infectious diseases tend to be unpredictable and easily spread. The vaccination rate of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program in the province has not met expectations, leading to a high risk of an increase in disease cases.
Climate change, natural disasters, and floods create conditions for disease outbreaks and spread. Globalization trends, increased demand for trade, tourism, and travel of people increase the possibility of disease spreading.
Although the work of preventing and controlling infectious diseases has been implemented in many localities, the effectiveness is not high. Activities to prevent dengue fever in some localities have not met requirements. Many people are still subjective, negligent, and not proactive in preventing diseases for themselves, their families and the community.
Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee assessed that in 2025, vaccine-preventable diseases, especially measles, are still likely to increase in number of cases and pose a risk of outbreaks, because the rate of population immunity has not reached its maximum level.
Endemic infectious diseases such as dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease still pose the risk of outbreaks. Emerging infectious diseases, although rare, have the potential to enter the province and cause outbreaks.
To minimize the rate of morbidity and mortality due to infectious diseases, Binh Dinh province requires agencies, units, and localities to closely monitor and follow the developments of the epidemic situation in the country and around the world, with the viewpoint of "Disease prevention from afar, early, right from the grassroots".
Enhance the role and responsibility of authorities at all levels in disease prevention and control; prepare response plans for pandemics or disease emergencies with the motto "4 on-site".
Infectious disease surveillance also needs to be maintained regularly, daily and weekly at all health facilities and in the community, to promptly detect cases of the disease. Infected cases need to be isolated and treated immediately, and outbreaks need to be isolated and thoroughly handled to prevent the disease from spreading.
Strengthen the capacity to admit and treat patients at medical examination and treatment facilities in the province, ensure quality, minimize serious complications and limit deaths.
