Can Tho - The city requires departments, branches and localities to proactively prevent, respond and overcome natural disasters, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.

Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch directing departments, branches and localities to synchronously deploy tasks and solutions to proactively prevent, respond and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.

According to the City People's Committee, in recent years, natural disasters across the country have been complicated, causing serious damage despite Can Tho City's efforts in prevention and response.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, natural disasters will continue to be unpredictable, with about 10-12 storms appearing in the East Sea; the rainy season ends late, with rainfall for the whole year being 10-20% higher than the average, concentrated in September-October. High tides have increased sharply since September, peaking in October; salinity intrusion in the 2025-2026 dry season is complicated.

In order to proactively prevent, respond, and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, communes, and wards to synchronously and effectively deploy solutions to prevent, respond, and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, focusing on implementing a number of key tasks.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City and socio-political organizations need to step up propaganda in the system, mobilize people to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to respond, and promote the strength of the whole society to minimize damage.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned to closely monitor weather developments, promptly advise the City People's Committee, and guide the implementation of the "4 on-site" motto. Review and propose the renovation and upgrading of natural disaster prevention and control works such as dykes, reservoirs, drainage systems, anchorage areas and other key works; modernize communication equipment, vessel monitoring equipment; strengthen communication to improve response skills for people. The Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund is directed to promptly support response, relief and agricultural production recovery after natural disasters.

The Department of Construction is assigned to integrate natural disaster prevention and control work in the process of planning and implementing traffic projects, ensuring project safety and reducing risks. Direct the assurance of traffic safety when natural disasters occur, overcome landslides, isolation, and avoid congestion on main roads. At the same time, review urban drainage systems, especially in areas that are frequently flooded, to find effective flood prevention solutions. Guiding people to build safe houses to prevent floods, storms, landslides and implementing housing support policies for disaster areas according to regulations.

The Department of Finance needs to allocate resources for natural disaster prevention and control, prioritize key projects and ensure reserves. The Department of Industry and Trade must protect electrical and communication systems. The education sector integrates knowledge to respond and ensure school safety. The police and the military coordinated to maintain security, rescue and relief. The grassroots government proactively reviews the plan, inspects vulnerable works and promptly reports when there are incidents.
