Green transformation is one of the three pillars of Ho Chi Minh City's development

Mr. Bui Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized the important role of green transformation in improving the city's competitiveness.

On the afternoon of April 21 in Ho Chi Minh City, Tuoi Tre newspaper, the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam) in coordination with the Climate Change Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Youth Federation announced the main contents of the Vietnam Green 2026 project, and at the same time organized a workshop "Green Energy Transition - Sustainable Growth Engine" to find solutions to promote substantive and effective green energy transition.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Bui Minh Thanh, City Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that green transformation is not just a choice, but a prerequisite for Ho Chi Minh City to maintain its role as an economic locomotive, raising competitiveness in the current new era.

Mr. Bui Minh Thanh affirmed that 2026 is also the first year Ho Chi Minh City implements the Resolution of the City Party Congress for the term 2025-2030, which identifies green transformation, digital transformation and innovation as 3 strategic pillars.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the green transformation project for the period 2025-2035 with 10 pillars and 76 specific targets, total resource demand of about 900,000 billion VND. The consistent viewpoint is that rapid development goes hand in hand with sustainability, economic growth is linked to improving the quality of the environment and the quality of life of the people," Mr. Bui Minh Thanh said.

According to Mr. Bui Minh Thanh, in the entire green transition process, energy transition is a key pillar, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing major orientations such as developing renewable energy, promoting energy saving, developing green hydrogen, towards net zero emissions by 2050.

In the field of urban and transportation, the city sets a target that by 2030, 100% of public transport vehicles will use clean energy. Mr. Bui Minh Thanh also said that the city has over 12 million vehicles with engines participating in traffic, including more than 1.4 million cars. Therefore, the city is developing projects to implement this.

Mr. Bui Minh Thanh also emphasized that the city is committed to accompanying businesses, strongly reforming institutions, prioritizing resources for green projects, and gradually building the city into a green transformation center of Southeast Asia. Through the workshop, the city expects experts and businesses to propose practical and feasible solutions and propose appropriate mechanisms and policies.

The workshop "Green Energy Transition - Sustainable Growth Engine" is also the opening activity for the "Green Vietnam 2026" project. After 2 years of implementation, the project has organized nearly 20 diverse activities such as seminars, contests, tours to green factories - businesses, Green Experience Day in Khanh Hoa and Green Vietnam Day in Ho Chi Minh City. Among them, Green Vietnam Day has become an annual highlight of the project, attracting more than 33,000 visitors, and awarding more than 28,000 green gifts.
