On August 25, Dong Thap Provincial Police issued a warning of the risk of violating the law on personal data protection on social networks.
Accordingly, in recent days, the incident involving Mr. N.H.M (64 years old, living in Tan Long commune, Dong Thap province) has attracted attention on social networks. After Ms. N.T.G (the woman living with him as husband and wife) was welcomed back to Nghe An by her biological child on August 15. Since then, many social media accounts have come to record, interview, and publicly post Mr. M's personal information and family circumstances.
According to Dong Thap Provincial Police, this not only affects the security and order situation in the locality but also poses a potential risk of personal data leakage, leading to fraud, impersonation, harassment, affecting the honor and reputation of Mr. M.
Notably, there is content exaggerating the amount of support Mr. M received up to billions of VND, while in reality, he and his family confirmed that they only received about 60-70 million VND along with some necessary items.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Dong Thap Provincial Police has coordinated with Tan Long Commune Police to grasp the situation, ensure security and order, and at the same time advise people to comply with legal regulations on personal data protection.
Dong Thap Provincial Police recommends that people when using social networks should respect their privacy, not record or post personal information without consensus; do not distort or exaggerate the truth for profit, causing misunderstanding in public.
