On November 29, the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command said that the Command Board of the An Thoi Port Border Guard Station, Phu Quoc City, had just coordinated with the Tho Chau Border Guard Station Rescue Ship to organize a search and rescue mission for a sunken vehicle.
Previously, on the evening of November 28, upon receiving the news, the Commander of the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard directed two units to mobilize forces and vehicles, and at the same time notified fishermen in the surrounding area to join in the search for the victims at sea.
After 30 minutes of searching, the forces discovered the location of the sunken barge. At the same time, fishing boat KG 94582 TS rescued 2 fishermen in distress. The working group on the Border Guard rescue boat received and brought the 2 victims to the Border Guard Station at An Thoi port for further medical care. Currently, the health of the 2 fishermen is stable.
According to information from the captain of the ship in distress, the vessel was a barge carrying construction materials from Tra Vinh to Kien Luong and then to Phu Quoc. There were 2 people on board (the captain and crew members from Bac Lieu province). While the barge was moving, it was about 10 nautical miles from Ong Doi cape (An Thoi, Phu Quoc) when it was sunk by a large wave.
