Da Nang strives to promote the potential of the sea

Da Nang City is making efforts to promote the potential of the sea, while strongly applying science and technology to develop marine economic sectors in a sustainable way.

On November 5, the Diplomatic Academy coordinated with the Vietnam Sea and archipelago Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and the People's Committee of Da Nang City to organize a national East Sea workshop with the theme "Scientific and technological cooperation: Driving force to promote the development of green and sustainable seas".

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Duc Toan - Director of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Administration emphasized that the 21st century is the century of the ocean. Vietnam has special potential and advantages to develop the marine economy associated with environmental protection and national security.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Toan believes that in the context of climate change, marine pollution and biodiversity loss are global challenges, marine complex management and green solutions are the "key" for Vietnam to effectively exploit marine potential, while affirming its role as a responsible marine nation.

At the workshop, Mr. Tran Nam Hung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City affirmed that in recent years, Da Nang City has made continuous efforts to promote marine potential, while strongly applying science and technology to develop marine economic sectors in a green and sustainable direction.

Da Nang's marine economy continues to grow steadily, the quality of development is improved in the direction of technology, innovation and high added value, in which the smart marine city is gradually taking shape.

In the coming time, Da Nang City will focus on sustainable development of marine economic sectors, controlling resource exploitation in the ability of the ecosystem to recover. Focus on investing in high-quality marine tourism infrastructure, building an international-class Da Nang marine tourism brand. At the same time, develop a marine logistics supply chain, improve transportation capacity and modern seaport services.

Da Nang City also promotes the application of advanced technology in exploitation, preservation, seafood processing, investment in renewable energy such as wind power, solar power. Pay attention to economic development based on marine biodiversity such as marine medicinal herbs, farming and processing seaweed, algae, marine grass, etc.

According to Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Da Nang City strengthens environmental protection, restores marine ecosystems, improves forecasting, warning and responding to climate change, rising sea levels, and natural disasters. Thereby, promoting international cooperation, attracting high-tech investment, developing high-quality marine human resources and promoting digital transformation, building a digital database on islands.
