Proposing businesses to buy sugarcane at reasonable prices for farmers

Kon Tum - The province requires businesses to purchase agricultural products at high prices, ensuring benefits for farmers.

On April 7, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thap - Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee - said that the province has proposed that processing and manufacturing plants in the area prioritize collecting agricultural products at reasonable prices, creating motivation for people to feel secure in farming.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province requested Kon Tum Road Joint Stock Company to speed up the sugarcane harvesting progress, especially in mountainous areas, to compensate for the profits of the people.

The company needs to study adjusting the sugarcane purchase price in an upward direction compared to the present. This is to encourage people to expand the planting area, forming stable raw material areas to serve the factory's operations.

In recent years, Kon Tum has focused on developing specialized sugarcane growing areas with a scale of thousands of hectares, not only improving land use efficiency but also bringing stable income to farmers.

The People's Committees of districts are assigned to promote propaganda and mobilize people to expand the area of sugarcane and passion fruit cultivation in the direction of concentrating, large-scale, forming raw material areas associated with processing facilities.

Cooperatives need to proactively sign contracts linking production and consumption, playing a bridging role between farmers and factories.

raw material purchasing factories are responsible for supporting farmers with seedlings, farming techniques and ensuring the supply of the right type of seeds.

Currently, Kon Tum province has about 1,219 hectares of sugarcane. Of which, Kon Tum city accounts for more than 800 hectares, being the locality with the largest sugarcane area in the province.

Kon Tum province is planning to expand the sugarcane raw material area to more than 2,000 hectares in the coming time.
