On March 20, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Provincial Police transferred the file to the People's Procuracy of Region 6, An Giang province, proposing to prosecute defendant Nguyen Van Thung (born in 1994, residing in U Minh Thuong commune, An Giang province) for the act of illegally using military weapons.
Previously, at about 11 pm on September 1, 2025, Nguyen Van Thung had acts of shouting and cutting down crops at home, causing insecurity and disorder. Discovering the incident, Thung's father reported it to the security and order protection force at the Minh Hung hamlet to intervene.
When the force arrived, Thung came out of the house, holding a knife in his hand and approached to threaten. During the intervention, a member of the security and order protection force at the facility was injured and taken to U Minh Thuong Medical Center for treatment. After that, U Minh Thuong Commune Police seized the knife for examination.
The results of the examination by the Sub-Institute of Criminal Science of the Ministry of Public Security determined that the weapon was a sharp, pointed knife, 43 cm long (wooden handle 15.5 cm long, blade 27.5 cm long), belonging to the list of weapons with high lethality.
Based on the results of investigation and assessment, Nguyen Van Thung's actions are sufficient to constitute the crime of illegally using military weapons as stipulated in Article 304 of the 2015 Penal Code (amended and supplemented in 2017).
The case has been completed by the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Provincial Police, transferred to the People's Procuracy of Region 6 to propose prosecution according to the provisions of law.
