With the desire to share difficulties and bring Mid-Autumn Festival to disadvantaged disabled children and lonely elderly people, the youth union members of Dong Hung B commune, An Minh district (Kien Giang) brought gifts to disadvantaged households. The gifts included moon cakes, lanterns and cash.
Nguyen Thanh Duy - Secretary of the Nga Bat Hamlet Youth Union - has been with the program since its inception, sharing: Almost all of these households have very difficult access roads, many sections are muddy and cannot be driven on. The group walked to their homes to visit and give gifts.
"They were very happy, and the whole group felt happy because they had done something meaningful. Even though my gift was not of high value, it spread the spirit of mutual love," Duy confided.
Duy also added that all the youth union members enthusiastically participated in these activities, everyone wanted to contribute their small efforts to meaningful work.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bien, a relative of N.K.B., who received the gift, confided: "Seeing the children come to visit the family is very happy, it has been a long time since there was a warm atmosphere with many people talking and asking about each other. The children did not mind the difficult road, rain and wind to bring gifts to our house, it feels very warm."
To give gifts to 20 disabled children and 6 lonely elderly people in the area, the youth union members had previously gathered forces to participate in a car wash fundraising program.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem My - Secretary of the Youth Union of Dong Hung B commune - said that this activity has been maintained by the commune union for the past 6 years, each year the activity has increased in both quantity and quality, the participants are very enthusiastic, many benefactors also support the activity with money.
“Everyone participated in the activity voluntarily, wanting to contribute their youth to do specific and practical things to bring a warm Mid-Autumn Festival to the unfortunate. This activity also demonstrates the enthusiasm of the youth in social security activities, contributing with the local Party Committee and government to take care of the less fortunate,” Ms. My shared.
