Gia Lai - The number of child deaths due to traffic accidents and drowning occurring in the area is still high.

On June 1st, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee just issued a Plan to implement the Program on preventing and combating accidents and injuries to children in the province for the period 2026-2030.

According to statistics from functional sectors, by the end of 2025, the whole province had 114 children who died from accidents and injuries, of which 67 cases died from drowning, accounting for 58.7% of the total number of children who died from accidents and injuries.

The plan also sets out specific targets such as: 95% of children, parents and caregivers are provided with knowledge and skills to prevent and combat accidents and injuries;

70% of children aged 6 to under 16 years old know safety skills in the water environment; 60% of children of this age group know how to swim safely; 95% of children use life jackets when participating in mandatory waterway traffic.

Gia Lai requests localities to install warning signs and barriers in dangerous areas; and at the same time promote the construction of mobile swimming pools to serve swimming lessons for children.
