On October 3, the Mobile Ranger Station under the Con Dao National Park Management Board announced that it had successfully rescued a sea turtle caught in a net and released it safely back to sea.
Previously, at around 5:45 p.m. on October 2, an interdisciplinary force including the Mobile Forest Ranger Station coordinated with Ben Dam Border Guard Station and Coast Guard Region 3 to patrol and control the waters of Con Dao.
During the patrol, the joint force received a report from fishermen about the discovery of a turtle caught in a net in the waters of Ben Dam Bay.
Upon receiving the information, the joint force quickly moved to the scene to organize the rescue, remove the net, and successfully release the turtle back into the sea. The rescued turtle weighed about 30 kg.
According to the Con Dao National Park Management Board, the sea around Con Dao often has a large number of sea turtles coming to nest and lay eggs; accounting for more than 80% of the number of sea turtles in Vietnam.
Turtle egg laying season usually takes place from April to November every year. Therefore, the unit also organizes rescue, hatching eggs, and releasing baby turtles into the sea with the most control in Vietnam.
The process of rescuing turtles, hatching and releasing baby turtles back into the sea in Con Dao National Park has also been exploited into a unique tourism product, popular with many tourists.
