Kien Giang - The policy of sentence reduction is not only a leniency of the law but also creates opportunities for prisoners to reform and soon reintegrate into the community.

On January 21, a conference was held at the Kien Giang Provincial Police Detention Center. This activity demonstrates the humane spirit and lenient policy of the Party and State, making an important contribution to the education and rehabilitation of law violators. This aims to strengthen the bond between prisoners and their families, while creating a strong motivation for prisoners to make efforts to reform and move towards the path of rehabilitation.

Lieutenant Colonel Quang Quoc Huy - Warden of the Detention Camp - informed about the situation of education and rehabilitation of prisoners serving sentences at the unit in the past year; the especially important role of families in encouraging and supporting prisoners to overcome difficulties...

Ms. Le Hong Tham, representative of the prisoner’s family, shared: “We are very grateful for the care, concern and educational efforts of the prison officers. That helps us feel more secure and confident in our loved one’s path to rehabilitation.”

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong - Deputy Director of Kien Giang Provincial Police - emphasized: "Family is not only the greatest source of encouragement but also the spiritual support that helps prisoners overcome difficulties and determine to change themselves. We hope that, through this conference, families will continue to accompany, love and help those who have made mistakes to have the opportunity to rebuild their lives, become good citizens, and be useful to society."

Prisoner Nguyen Phu Lam (currently being reformed at Sub-camp II - Temporary Detention Camp) happily shared: "Being able to see my family again is the biggest motivation for me to be determined to reform well. I hope to return one day to make up for the loss and suffering I have caused."

Also on the afternoon of January 21, Kien Giang Provincial Police held a ceremony to announce the decision of the Provincial People's Court to reduce the sentences of 8 prisoners serving their sentences at the Provincial Police Detention Center on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025. Of which, 1 prisoner had his entire sentence reduced, the remaining 7 prisoners had their sentences reduced by 3-4 months. This is a worthy reward for their continuous efforts and attempts during their rehabilitation process, and at the same time a motivation for other prisoners to continue to strive to improve themselves.

The policy of sentence reduction is not only a leniency of the law but also demonstrates the State's goal of creating opportunities for those who have made mistakes to make amends and soon reintegrate into their families and society.

As the person whose sentence was reduced, prisoner Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep emotionally shared: “I am very grateful for the attention of the Party, the State and the prison officers. This is a valuable opportunity for me to correct my mistakes and soon reunite with my family. I will try to become a good person, not letting down everyone's trust.”
