On October 4, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province coordinated with the Department of Physical Training and Sports to organize the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Judo Championship in Vung Tau city.
As part of the high-performance sports competition system, the 2024 National Judo Championship attracted more than 300 martial artists from 23 provinces, cities and sectors across the country. This is also the biggest tournament of the year for Judo.
In the tournament, the athletes will compete in 3 main events: Combat events in 18 weight categories (men from under 50kg to under 100kg; women from under 42kg to under 78kg); team events (men from under 55kg to under 81kg; women from under 45kg to under 63kg); and Kata events (such as Nage No Kata, Ju No Kata, Katame No Kata, Kime No Kata, Kadokan Goshin Jutsu).
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - President of the Vietnam Judo Federation - said that in addition to maintaining and strongly developing Judo, the tournament also creates conditions for athletes to compete and improve their achievements. Through that, the quality of training of Judo athletes of the units is evaluated, on that basis, adding excellent athletes to the National Team.
The Judo movement has developed strongly nationwide in recent years; Ba Ria - Vung Tau is also one of the provinces with a well-developed Judo movement, with many athletes achieving high results in domestic and regional tournaments.
"I see that the Department of Culture and Sports of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has paid attention to and invested in many high-performance sports, especially Judo. This is a good premise for athletes and students to have the conditions to practice physical training and improve their health. Through martial arts, it helps to train both skills and ethics, helping them to mature more in society," said Mr. Hung.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the athletes entered the competition with exciting and fierce matches. The tournament is expected to last until October 10.
