Lao Cai plans to spend VND2,596 billion to build a specialized General Hospital to take on regional functions

Lao Cai - The locality is developing a project to develop General Hospital No. 1, becoming a provincial-level specialized general hospital to take on regional functions.

On November 5, Vice Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Vu Thi Hien Hanh received and worked with the working delegation of the Ministry of Health led by Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health on the Project "Developing Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital No. 1 into a provincial-level specialized general hospital to take on regional functions in the period of 2026 - 2030, with a vision to 2050".

At the meeting, Dr. Tran Lan Anh - Director of Lao Cai General Hospital 1 informed about the Project "Developing Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital No. 1 into a provincial-level specialized general hospital to take on regional functions, period 2026 - 2030, vision to 2050", with a total estimated cost of VND 2,596 billion.

The project aims to have Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 as a complete General Hospital by 2030, developing into a specialized hospital taking on regional functions, developing towards an advanced specialized hospital.

The scale reaches 1,500 beds, the quality score according to the Hospital Quality Criteria is greater than 4.4/5 points; sufficient capacity to support medical examination and treatment facilities in the province and the region in terms of expertise and human resource training.

Vision to 2050: The hospital will become an advanced specialized General Hospital with an operating scale of 3,500 beds. The quality score according to the set of hospital quality criteria is ≥ 4.6/5 points. The hospital meets most of the medical examination and treatment needs of people in the province and the region.

Currently, Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 is a Grade I Hospital, with a scale of 1,290 beds with 25 departments, 9 rooms, 3 centers. The hospital has achieved 72 points, ranking it as a specialized level.

However, the scale of the hospital's infrastructure is still limited, some items are degraded, medical equipment does not meet the requirements of in-depth technical development, and reinvestment capacity is still difficult.

At the meeting, delegates discussed and clarified the role and regulations to become a regional hospital; the need for Pediatric medical examination and treatment to develop specialized techniques; training human resources to meet requirements; investing in radiotherapy machines specializing in oncology...

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee emphasized that in the coming time, Lao Cai province will continue to invest in upgrading and expanding the scale of infrastructure and equipment, especially spearhead equipment for Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 to take on regional functions.

At the same time, Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 is required to select specific and appropriate specialized fields and expertise, focusing on human resources, infrastructure, materials, and equipment to quickly complete the project.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health affirmed that Lao Cai is a key province in the Northwest region; the selection of General Hospital No. 1 to take on the function of a regional hospital is in line with actual needs.

The Deputy Minister of Health suggested that the province select key specialties to develop regional scale, based on existing human resource capacity and equipment; do a good job of out-of-hospital emergency care to improve the effectiveness of people's health care.
