On October 31, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province worked on difficulties and obstacles in implementing domestic solid waste treatment projects in the area.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province currently generates nearly 2,700 tons of household waste per day, of which nearly 79% is collected and treated, the remaining 21% has not been collected according to regulations.

In addition, there are currently 22 temporary landfills in the province, mainly concentrated in the Northern area.
The whole province has 12 domestic solid waste treatment projects, of which 8 projects are receiving waste, the remaining 4 projects have been approved for investment and are completing related procedures.
At the meeting, a representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said: The progress of waste treatment projects for power generation is still slow, causing difficulties in coordinating waste between localities. This leads to a situation of garbage stagnation, many temporary landfills, and a potential risk of environmental pollution.
The representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommended that the Provincial People's Committee assign the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments and branches to review, update and integrate the planning of transit infrastructure and solid waste treatment into the provincial planning.
The Department of Industry and Trade will preside over reviewing the allocation of power generation capacity and adjustment contents of power generation waste treatment projects compared to the National Power Development Plan, and updating them to the provincial planning.
The People's Committees of communes, wards and towns urgently review and report to the Department of Construction on the planning and investment in domestic solid waste transfer stations to soon put them into operation...
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang said: The Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress set a target that by 2030, the rate of domestic solid waste collected and treated to ensure standards and regulations will reach 97% for urban areas and 90% for rural areas.
To achieve this goal, it is necessary to synchronously deploy solutions from management, planning of processing areas to investing in projects applying modern technology. Along with that is the investment in building a transit station system, ensuring effective waste collection and treatment.
The leaders of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to synthesize the difficulties and problems of the projects and the recommendations of investors, on that basis, advise the Provincial People's Committee on appropriate handling plans.
