Every day, Vietnam detects more than 1,500 Spyware attacks

The trend of cyber attacks using spyware to collect data, personal information... in Vietnam is on the rise.

According to data released by cybersecurity and digital security company Kaspersky on the afternoon of November 18, in the first half of 2025, Vietnam recorded 191,976 cases of spyware attacks, a sharp increase compared to 107,363 cases in the same period in 2024.

On average, up to 1,520 attacks were detected per day. With an increase of up to 78.8% over the same period last year, Vietnam continues to be in the top 3 countries recording the highest number of Spyware attacks in the region, behind only Singapore (up 210.9%) and Malaysia (up 124.2%).

According to a global cybersecurity company, the rapid increase in Spyware attacks targeting Vietnamese businesses shows that the cybersecurity threat is becoming more serious than ever.

Spyware is a type of software secretly installed on users' devices to collect data. Unlike malware, spyware does not harm software or files.

They quietly track user activity, such as recording keyboard movements, taking screenshots, or recording input data. Spyware is often installed online, but user tracking activities can take place in a local network.

In general, spyware is a tool that helps attackers secretly collect personal information, financial information or sensitive data of users. sensitive data often violated by spyware includes: Login information including user name and password, pin code of accounts, credit card number, keyboard operations, history and web browsing habits, email address...

Mr. Simon Tung, General Director of Southeast Asia of Kaspersky, commented that valuable information such as login accounts, financial data, phone numbers or shopping history are the targets that bad guys want to take over to carry out acts of property appropriation.

Therefore, this is an urgent time for Vietnamese enterprises to proactively switch to using threat intelligence platforms to proactively detect, evaluate and respond to dangerous attacks such as spyware.

In fact, ensuring absolute safety against Spyware attacks is a major challenge. However, cybersecurity experts also make recommendations for Vietnamese businesses to reduce and prevent the risks from this, including:

- Regularly update the software on all devices. The top priority is updating the operating system, web browser and messaging applications.

- Do not click on suspicious links. Just one access to a malicious website can infect the device with spyware.

- Use VPNs to protect and hide Internet access. This tool helps prevent the risk of being redirected to malicious websites, especially useful when you access unsecurely encrypted HTTP pages.

- Regularly re boots the device. In many cases, Spyware cannot last long on the system. Rebooting can help temporarily remove underlying malware.

- Install a reliable security solution on all devices.

- Continuously update the latest Threat Intelligence (threat analysis) information to fully grasp the tactics, techniques and processes (TTPs) that cybercriminals are using, thereby helping businesses proactively prevent and effectively respond to cybersecurity risks.
