Lunar New Year is a time when people's travel demand increases, leading to great pressure on the transportation system across the country. Along with dense entertainment and festival activities, the subjective and lack of concentration of a part of traffic participants makes the risk of accidents and congestion always latent, especially in the days before, during and after Tet.
According to forecasts, during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, the traffic volume on many arterial roads, urban gateways and key national highways will increase sharply. At many times, traffic may fall into localized overload, especially at bus stations, tourist areas, and spring festival areas. In that context, raising each person's awareness, participating in traffic with responsibility and alertness is a key factor to ensure safety and maintain the joy of Tet reunion.

Analyzing the causes of increased traffic accidents during Tet, experts believe that this is the period with the greatest traffic pressure in the year. Not only due to increased vehicle density, especially private cars, but also stemming from changes in the psychology of traffic participants. Hasty and impatient moods about time, and the tendency to underestimate risks make many people make dangerous decisions such as speeding, encroaching on lanes, and using alcohol but still driving vehicles.
Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee - Dr. Tran Huu Minh - said that Tet is a peak traffic season with a sharp increase in the number of vehicles, which means that the probability of collisions and accidents also increases accordingly.
Besides, distraction due to year-end worries, traveling on new routes, participating in traffic in strange areas when traveling in spring, going to temples at the beginning of the year or driving newly purchased vehicles while skills and experience are not sufficient... are all factors that increase the risk of unsafety.
Traffic pressure during Tet also poses a significant challenge for functional forces. Captain Hoang Tung - Road Traffic Police Team No. 14, Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police - said that to ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year, Hanoi Traffic Police force strengthens the synchronous deployment of patrol and control measures, strictly handling violations on key routes and areas. Traffic regulation and diversion are implemented according to the motto of proactiveness, flexibility, taking safety and smooth traffic as the highest goals.

Along with that, functional forces focus on grasping the situation at bus stations, major traffic axes, especially intersections connecting expressways and gateways into and out of the city to limit the occurrence of congestion and accidents. Coordination with the police of neighboring localities is also promoted to organize remote traffic diversion, guiding vehicles to go on the right route, on the right route.
Representatives of the Traffic Police Department said that the continuous requirement during the Tet peak period is to proactively forecast, promptly detect and handle all risks of traffic unsafety, congestion and acts of disturbing public order. The general spirit of the Traffic Police force is to serve people's safe and convenient travel, minimizing traffic accidents during holidays and Tet.
Reality shows that the causes of increased traffic accidents during Tet are not only due to infrastructure or weather conditions, but mainly human factors. Strictly complying with legal regulations on traffic order and safety; not using alcohol and beer while driving; choosing reasonable travel time frames; maintaining a civilized and considerate attitude when participating in traffic... are practical solutions to prevent accidents.
Tet is the moment of reunion, the closing point of a year and opening up new expectations. Maintaining safety when participating in traffic is the way each person protects themselves, their family and the community, so that the joy of Tet holiday is complete and peaceful.
