Typhoon Yagi has caused serious damage to the forestry sector in Quang Ninh province, causing more than 117,000 hectares of forest to collapse. This damage not only affects the economy but also seriously impacts the environment, water resources and livelihoods of people, especially forest plantation enterprises and ethnic minority communities in mountainous, border and island areas.
In order to quickly overcome the consequences caused by Typhoon Yagi, on October 1, the Provincial People's Committee issued a document launching a 30-day and night peak period with the goal of supporting forest clearance and sanitation, and collecting forest products in damaged areas. The campaign mobilizes forces from armed units, forest rangers, and youth volunteers according to the "4 on-site" motto, ensuring completion before October 31, 2024.
Local forces will coordinate with businesses to focus on purchasing and transporting forest products quickly. At the same time, wood chip processing and exporting businesses will operate at maximum capacity to ensure the recovery process is continuous and effective.
In addition, the Provincial People's Committee also requested districts, towns and cities to strengthen measures to protect and prevent forest fires after storms. Socio-political organizations should propagate, call for and participate in supporting people to collect and clear forest timber.
To implement the campaign, localities have informed people and businesses to register their need for support. Accordingly, Cam Pha City People's Committee has received requests from 32 forest owners in Duong Huy commune, Cua Ong ward and Cam Pha Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. to support forces and means to collect, clean and sanitize forests after the storm.
Up to now, the city has supported machinery and equipment for Cam Pha Forestry One Member Co., Ltd., and at the same time developed a plan to implement a peak period of support for forest clearing, sanitation, and collection and utilization of forest products.
On the morning of October 5, the People's Committee of Cam Tay Ward (Cam Pha) coordinated with Khe Sim Company to cut and clear fallen trees in the area of Hill 908 adjacent to the residential area of Thong Nhat and Le Loi. Mong Duong Ward arranged forces to support the collection of forest products and forest sanitation on an area of 112 hectares of forest damaged by storm No. 3 of Cam Pha Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. and 2 households in area 9.
In Van Don district, local authorities have mobilized forces to deploy firebreaks to prevent forest fires during the dry season.
