On February 20, the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC08) informed the results after a period of implementing Decree 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations of traffic order and safety in the field of road traffic; deducting points, restoring points on the official driving license effective from January 1, 2025.
The Traffic Police Department said that Decree 168 has initially proven its effectiveness in reducing accidents, raising citizens' awareness of obeying traffic laws, helping the traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City to improve significantly.
According to statistics, from January 1, 2025 to now, there have been 100 road traffic accidents in the city, killing 44 people and injuring 51 people; compared to the same period in 2024, there has been a reduction of 123 cases (down 55%), a reduction of 15 deaths (down 25%), and a reduction of 105 injuries (down 66%).
Violations that are quite common such as: violating alcohol concentration, driving on the sidewalk, running red lights, going in the wrong direction or not wearing a helmet, ... have also decreased significantly.
Traffic participants have been proactive in learning about legal regulations as well as safe traffic rules and voluntarily complying even without the presence of the traffic police force to check and control.
PC08 Department said that in the early days of Decree 168 being implemented, there will be significant changes and impacts on the daily lives of people, leading to many conflicting opinions.
However, all violations will be considered and related factors will be compared to ensure fair handling, correct handling, and no wrongful convictions due to objective reasons. In cases of image-based punishment, violators will be provided with full images of the violation by the traffic police to ensure accuracy and transparency.
