On July 31, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Thanh Hoa province said that African swine fever (DTLCP) continues to spread in many localities, with the number of outbreaks increasing rapidly in recent weeks. However, the work of ensuring, controlling and handling outbreaks is being vigorously implemented.

As of July 30, the whole province has recorded the epidemic in 826 livestock households in 281 villages, belonging to 61 communes and wards. A total of 6,930 pigs were destroyed, with a total weight of nearly 392 tons. Some localities with widespread outbreaks include: Thach Binh, Ngoc Trao, Kim Tan, Yen Tho, Cong Chinh, Thang Binh, Phu Le, Xuan Hoa, Xuan Lap and Bim Son ward.
A positive signal is that 13 communes have initially controlled the epidemic, and have not caused any more outbreaks in recent days, such as: Tinh Gia, Hoat Giang, Thuong Xuan, Quang Trung, Vinh Loc, Hoa Quy...
However, the authorities assess that the risk of recurrence and widespread spread is still very high, especially after the recent heavy floods caused by storm No. 3.
According to the authorities, the main cause comes from small-scale livestock models that do not ensure biosafety. The barn is often adjacent to the living place, processed foods do not ensure hygiene, creating conditions for pathogens to invade through daily activities or from food carrying pathogens.
Faced with the complicated developments of the epidemic, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has issued many directives, urgent telegrams, and requested localities to proactively prevent and control the epidemic. The Department of Agriculture and Environment guides the implementation of measures such as: spraying disinfectants in barns, controlling the transportation - slaughter - consumption of pigs and pig products.
In particular, 26 Agricultural Service Centers and the veterinary forces of communes and wards have increased professional support and coordinated handling in epidemic areas to limit damage and the risk of spreading.
