By the end of December 2024, Binh Thuan province had 8,337 fishing vessels registered and updated on the national database VNFishbase.
Recently, Binh Thuan province has focused on preventing IUU fishing with many solutions.
According to Nguyen Van Chien, Acting Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan province, the unit has compiled statistics and compiled a list of 173 fishing vessels at high risk of violating foreign waters in 5 districts for monitoring and management; assigned more than 100 officers and soldiers in the area to monitor, supervise, and promptly prevent fishing vessels from violating foreign waters.
At the same time, organize 24/7 on-duty at the Fishing Vessel Monitoring Center to monitor and control fishing vessels operating at sea. This monitoring center has been operating since 2020 and is located at the Department of Fisheries.
The Data Stations are located at the Fisheries Control Representative Office at fishing ports, the Provincial Border Guard Command, Border Guard Stations, the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command and share access to fishing ports and local authorities.
The fishing vessel monitoring team was established, consisting of 7 officials from the Fisheries Sub-Department. The Department's Office is on duty 24/7 at the Fishing Vessel Monitoring Center to monitor, promptly detect, and handle fishing vessels that lose connection and cross maritime boundaries according to procedures and regulations.
The province currently has 2,010 fishing vessels with a length of 15 m or more installed with VMS, reaching 100% and being closely monitored by units and localities, with information on anchorage locations and contact phone numbers. The interdisciplinary working group operates, monitors, receives and verifies information, investigates and handles cases of fishing vessels losing VMS connection in Binh Thuan province.
With the above drastic measures, from February 2023 to now, no fishing boats of Binh Thuan province have been detected violating foreign waters.

In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province and relevant agencies will continue to closely manage, monitor and supervise fishing vessels and fishermen, resolutely not allowing fishing vessels and fishermen to illegally exploit foreign waters; Contribute to the whole country in removing the EC's "yellow card", towards sustainable, responsible and internationally integrated fisheries development.
