Fining a man 7.5 million VND for insulting commune police on Facebook

Lao Cai - A man in Tan Linh commune was fined 7.5 million VND after posting false comments, insulting the reputation of the police force on social networks.

On May 14, Lao Cai Provincial Police said that Tan Linh Commune Police had issued a decision to sanction administrative violations for a case of posting false information, insulting the reputation of the police force on the social network Facebook.

According to the police agency, through grasping the situation in cyberspace, on May 5, functional forces discovered a Facebook account posting public comments with untrue content under an article reflecting the activities of supporting people to dismantle old houses to build new houses by officers and soldiers of Tan Linh Commune Police.

This is an activity in response to the "Three-First" emulation movement in the People's Police force, receiving much attention and support from local people. However, the above-mentioned Facebook account has made offensive comments, affecting the reputation of the grassroots police force.

Immediately after discovering the incident, Tan Linh Commune Police proceeded to verify and clarify that the account holder was L.V. T (born in 1990, residing in Tan Linh commune, Lao Cai province).

Working with the police agency, L.V. T admitted his violations. This person said that due to lack of legal knowledge and a lack of sympathy for the police force, he posted false comments on social networks.

After being propagated and explained the legal regulations related to the act of providing and sharing false information on cyberspace, L.V. T realized the violation, voluntarily removed the violating content and committed not to re-offend.

Based on point a, clause 1, Article 101 of Decree No. 15/2020/ND-CP of the Government, Tan Linh Commune Police issued a decision to impose an administrative fine of 7.5 million VND on L.V. T for the act of "Providing and sharing false information, distorting, slandering, and insulting the prestige of agencies, organizations, honor, and dignity of individuals".

In addition to being administratively sanctioned, violators are also forced to remove all violating content and post correction information and public apologies on their personal Facebook pages.

Through the incident, Tan Linh Commune Police recommends that people need to raise their sense of responsibility when using social networks; carefully verify information before posting, sharing or commenting.

Acts of spreading false information, insulting the reputation of agencies, organizations and individuals in cyberspace will be strictly handled according to legal regulations.

According to functional forces, using social networks civilizedly and in accordance with regulations not only contributes to ensuring security and order in cyberspace but also helps build a healthy and safe information environment for the community.
