The exhibition "Hoi Ngon" is an activity in the 52Hz event series of the Palette of Sound (POS) volunteer organization - a club founded by a group of high school students with the desire to create an environment that supports and encourages the psychological development of deaf-mute children through art.
The exhibition "Hoi Ngon" aims to help a group of deaf people speak up, freely express their dreams through art. In addition, the exhibition also has the participation of a number of young artists with the desire to auction their paintings to raise charity funds for the deaf community and spread good messages.
With the goal of connecting the deaf community with society, Hoi Ngon creates opportunities for deaf children to be understood, sympathized, and integrated into society, while creating a friendly, healthy playground for them to freely express their personality and develop.
In addition, the program organizers also hope to popularize basic knowledge about speech disabilities to everyone around, so that everyone can understand and sympathize, thereby eliminating the boundaries between these two communities. Instead of thinking that deaf people are disabled, we can realize that deaf people are simply a community with a different language and way of communication. Through the paintings at the exhibition, it can help people have a comprehensive and positive view of deaf people as well as sympathize and accept them.
Regarding the meaning of the exhibition's name, Head organizer Pham Gia Linh said: "Hoi" means response, and "Ngon" means words, language. Combined together, the name "Hoi Ngon" brings the meaning of "Responding to voices".
The voice here is the voice of deaf children, who, due to their physical disabilities, have not been understood or accepted by the surrounding society. With this name, we hope that the voices, thoughts and more importantly, the dreams that the children have expressed on the pages decorated with seashells will be listened to, respected and responded to.
With the image of a seashell, the organizers also want to convey the message: Listen and learn about the nameless sounds, the "pearls" hidden deep inside each person, specifically the deaf, to understand, love, protect them and recognize the beauty of the soul hidden by physical disabilities.
The exhibition "Hoi Ngon" takes place for 2 days, October 17-18 at Art & Auction, 75 Hang Bo, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.
