The Vietnamese automobile market in March 2026 recorded a strong recovery after a quiet period at the beginning of the year, with total market sales reaching about 70,859 vehicles from members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), VinFast and Hyundai Thanh Cong. This result increased by about 120% compared to the previous month, showing that purchasing power has accelerated again after the Lunar New Year holiday.
Notably, if considering the group of vehicles using internal combustion engines separately, Toyota Yaris Cross unexpectedly rose to the top of the entire market with sales of 2,378 vehicles, nearly 4 times higher than in February. This is a notable return of this B-SUV model after not appearing in the leading group last month.
Ranked second is Mitsubishi Xpander with 1,763 units sold, more than 3 times higher than the previous month. Meanwhile, the 7-seater SUV Mitsubishi Destinator continued to maintain positive growth momentum when reaching 1,663 units, ranking third in the entire market and showing positive signs of a new car model joining the segment.
In the following positions, Toyota Innova Cross achieved sales of 1,576 vehicles, 4 times higher than the previous month. Notably, the hybrid version of this model accounts for a large proportion of total sales, reflecting the trend of consumers increasingly interested in fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly car lines.
Meanwhile, Mazda CX-5 reached 1,531 units sold in March. Although decreasing in ranking compared to the previous month, this model is still the internal combustion engine line with the highest accumulated sales in Q1.2026.
The remaining positions in the top 10 respectively belong to Ford Ranger, Ford Everest, Ford Territory, Mitsubishi Xforce and Toyota Vios; all achieved sales of over 1,000 vehicles in the month.
Notably, the entire top 10 best-selling internal combustion engine cars in March 2026 did not record the presence of Korean brands such as Hyundai Motor Company or Kia Corporation. This development shows the increasingly clear level of competition in the market, and also reflects the trend of consumers' car choices leaning more towards Japanese and American brands in the current period.
