Hang Son Doong is called a surreal wonder by an American magazine

Travel+Leisure has a new article praising the natural landscape and diversity of the world in the heart of Son Doong - the world's largest cave.

Travel+Leisure is the world's leading travel magazine, which has just published an article titled "World's Largest Cave in Vietnam Has Its Own Weather System and Rainforest".

The American travel magazine introduced Son Doong, which impressed with numbers such as the length of the cave nearly 9km, the maximum height of the cave arch up to 200m and the maximum width of 160m, it is estimated that the cave can contain a full 40-storey building. With such a "huge" size, Son Doong has its own climate.

The height of the cave is enough for the clouds to appear inside while the rivers underground. The two sinkholes in the cave are like two "w windows" to visitors see the sunlight, while creating conditions for real species inside the cave to thrive.

Currently, visitors can explore Son Doong Cave by taking a 5-night tour. The most prominent point of the journey is the experience of seeing the world with one's own eyes in the cave with giant yapops, primeval forests, underground rivers and a province-based climate.

The discovery of Son Doong also takes visitors to conquer the giant stone wall called the Vietnamese Wall, which is about 3 million years old.

Travel+Leisure said that the world's largest cave conquest tour is highly difficult and limits the number of people per year. To go on this tour, visitors must be physically fit, exercise regularly, be able to run 5km in less than 50 minutes, climb 5 floors continuously without losing steam.

Son Doong entered the Guinness World Record book as the world's largest cave since 2009. For the past 16 years, the cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (now Quang Binh province, Quang Tri province) has always been a top destination for domestic and international explorers and nature enthusiasts.

Son Doong's appeal is also demonstrated by a series of articles, TV shows, music products... of many international media units and major artists around the world.

Most recently, at the end of March 2025, British travel magazine Wanderlust ranked Son Doong in the top 9 surreal destinations in the world. At the end of 2024, the BBC Planet Earth III Documentary Series received 5 nominations for the Emmy Awards 2024, of which 2 were nominated for 6 "Extremes" exploiting the land with extremely harsh environments, with a beautiful image of the Son Doong cave system. In July 2024, Travel+Leisure also selected Quang Binh as one of the 13 most beautiful destinations in the world and mentioned Son Doong Cave, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park...
