Tens of thousands of people flock to watch the Ngo boat racing festival in Soc Trang

Mekong Delta – From November 14-15, 60 boat teams from provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta will compete in the Ngo Boat Race with fierce and exciting matches.

On November 14, the Ngo boat racing competition in the 6th Ooc Om Boc - Ngo boat racing festival in Soc Trang province, Mekong Delta region officially opened in Soc Trang.

Although it was only the first day, the boat racing festival attracted nearly 100,000 spectators to watch live and follow on social media platforms. Thereby, showing the attraction of this sport.

This year, the race attracted 60 teams with nearly 7,200 athletes, coaches and service staff participating. Accordingly, 48 teams in Soc Trang province, 12 teams from Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang provinces and Can Tho city participated in the 1,200m men's race and 1,000m women's race.

In the men's event, 53 teams are divided into 13 groups of 4 teams each and 1 group of 5 teams. The teams compete in a round robin to determine the 32 teams that will advance to the second stage for the next day's competition (November 15).

For the women's rowing team, 7 teams were divided into 2 groups, competing in a round robin to select the first and second place teams to enter the semi-finals and final rankings. The women's rowing speed was not inferior to that of the men.
