Max McFarlin is an American guy who has lived and traveled in Vietnam for many years. Max owns a YouTube channel specializing in reviewing Vietnamese cuisine and has more than 700,000 followers. In his latest video, Max shared that he is in Australia but still craves Vietnamese food, so he and his friends went to find Vietnamese restaurants in the land of kangaroos. Among them, the American guy was most impressed with a sandwich shop that has been open since 1988 in the port city of Sydney.
That is the Bay Ngo bakery, which is considered the best in Sydney and is run by Vietnamese people. Max and his Vietnamese-Australian friend were immediately impressed by the counter displaying all kinds of ingredients and crispy bread. The two were also lucky to meet and be visited by the owner, Jess. The owner personally made special bread for the two guests to enjoy.
Max shared that he was very touched to see the passion and enthusiasm of the owner, who has been in business with his family for nearly 40 years, opening from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day of the week. Their shop makes sandwiches with all fresh ingredients, from roast pork, pate to mayo sauce. You can feel the quality, love and dedication of the people who make it in each sandwich.
A special sandwich costs 153,000 VND (9 AUD). “We stood talking to Jess for about 15 minutes and my hands were about to fall off from holding this huge sandwich,” Max said.
“The bread is big and full. Look at the cross-section, this roasted pork sandwich is amazing, with lots of carrots. I have eaten many banh mi shops abroad but this one is really good. The pate and the crispy homemade pork are my favorites, reminding me of the roasted pork sandwiches in Vietnam,” he said.
Max was surprised that the bread at Bay Ngo was very similar to Vietnamese, he did not think that he could find such pure Vietnamese ingredients in faraway Sydney. Although he had eaten quite a lot at 3 other shops before buying the bread, Max shared that he would eat half of the bread he bought because it was so delicious.
The American food vlogger fondly calls this “Vietnamese bread paradise” in Sydney. In the video of a day “full of Vietnamese food” in Australia, Max also enjoyed many other dishes such as banh xeo, pho, bun bo...
