Vietnam - China international passenger train resumes operation; trains from Hebei to Daily and Yang Bich (China) are being tested... attracting tourists.

Eager to travel to China by train

According to Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), since the end of May, the Vietnam - China international passenger transport ship has resumed operations after more than 5 years of interruption due to COVID-19.

The train convoy departs from Gia Lam Station (Hanoi) to Dong Dang Station (Lang Son), then from Bang Tuong Station to Nam Ninh Station (Wangxi, China) and vice versa.

The ticket price for the Hanoi - Nam Ninh route is about 1 million VND, the Hanoi - Beijing route is nearly 9.4 million VND/trip.

In addition, according to Xinhua, on June 4-5, China will launch a trial flight from the Vietnamese border to Daily, Yangxi (China).

The train departs from Ha Khau Bac station in Ha Khau district, Yunnan province (China), bordering Lao Cai province (Vietnam), to Dai Ly and Duong Bich stations in the west of Yunnan province.

With this means of transportation, tourists have more options when traveling to China. In particular, many young Vietnamese people are eager to learn information to experience traveling to China by train.

Tu Anh (24 years old, Hanoi) said: "I travel to China many times because I like to experience Chinese culture and cuisine. However, most trips are by plane or car. Knowing that the Vietnam - China international train is operating again, I researched information and plan to book tickets this summer to seek new experiences when traveling to China".

Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Pham Thi Thu Huong, Vitamin Tours & Events Business School, Lao Cai branch, said that since the international route resumed operations, some customers have contacted and sought to buy tours by train.

"Most of the customers are young people, have a lot of time and are eager to explore new experiences. Meanwhile, middle-aged and elderly customers often choose to take a car or plane with a lighter and faster route," said Ms. Huong.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Bui Thanh Tu - Marketing Director of BestPrice Travel said that China tours by train are cheap, suitable for young people who love to explore.

"Currently, we are studying the needs and behavior of customers to consider collaborating with domestic travel companies, opening tours to welcome visitors to China traveling by train," Mr. Tu revealed.

China tours continue to attract Vietnamese tourists

In addition to train tours, this year, Vietnamese tourists continue to pay much attention to China tours.

According to Ms. Thu Huong, some tours chosen by many customers include: Chau Hong Ha tour (2 days 1 night, 3 days 2 nights, 4 days 3 nights), through Binh Bien, Mongolia, Di Lac, Kien Thuy, Khai Vien with prices starting from 3.95 million VND/person; Con Minh - Dai Ly tour (4 days 3 nights, 5 days 4 nights) with prices starting from 6.99 million VND/person; Con Minh - Dai Ly - Le Giang - Shangrila tour (6 days 5 nights) with prices starting from 11.19 million VND/person...

In particular, with the Hong Ha Chau tour, tourists do not need a visa, only a passport. For other destinations, the visa application process to China is also quite easy and convenient.

In addition to the train tour that promises to bring new experiences to Vietnamese tourists, a group of middle-aged tourists especially love tours to China by road, because of their competitive prices.

Ms. Huong commented: "After the April 30 holiday, our groups of guests are mainly people aged 45 and over (accounting for about 90%). This surprised us quite a bit because every year, young customers are often much larger."

Meanwhile, Best Price Travel mainly focuses on exploiting tours to Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou by air. Mr. Tu said that most customers are often busy with work, so it is difficult for them to board a Chinese cruise ship for a long time.

In the tour route of travel companies, you can design some domestic trains and high-speed trains in China so that visitors have more experiences without spending too much time.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, assessed that in recent times, tourism cooperation between Vietnam and China has continued to achieve many important steps forward, with proactive participation from the central to local levels, from the government to businesses.

According to the Statistics Office, the total number of international visitors in the first 5 months of 2025 reached 9.2 million, an increase of 21.3% over the same period in 2024. The Chinese market maintained the No. 1 position with 2.36 million arrivals.
