RFEF has just convened an extraordinary meeting, with the participation of La Liga and Segunda Division (second place). The meeting content is to discuss and resolve issues related to the referee. The only absentee was Real Madrid.
The invitation was sent a few weeks ago and Real Madrid once intended to participate. However, after losing to Espanyol last weekend, Los Blancos canceled the decision and announced it to RFEF. The reason is that the Bernabeu home team did not agree with the referee's decisions in the last loss, which could put them in danger in this season's three-horse race with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
This is not the first time Real Madrid have expressed their opposition to the refereeing in La Liga. Before denying the invitation of the RFEF meeting, Real filed a complaint with the same organization and the Senior Sports Council of the Spanish Government (CSD) after losing to Espanyol. The team of President Florentino Perez wants the referees to provide 2 recordings when the referees use VAR, leading to unfavorable situations.
Back in the match, Real Madrid players emerged with referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz. This "Black King" did not expel Carlos Romero from Espanyol after a foul on Kylian Mbappe in the 60th minute. Previously, Vinicius Jr's 21st minute goal was also disallowed, as Mr. Muniz said Mbappe made a mistake in the preparation process.
In both of these situations, the VAR team, due to referee64 Iglesias Villanueva, did not intervene. Only the interaction between Mr Muniz and Villanueva and then the referee's decision.

Real Madrid's complaint reads: "The events that took place in this match exceeded all the usual errors of a referee. What happened at the RCDE Stadium is a typical example showing that a system of referees has lost their reputation. The decisions against Real Madrid were as if they had been manipulated and ruined the match. This cannot be overlooked.
The scandal created by this match once again left a bad reputation worldwide. International press has repeatedly condemned the very biased use of VAR in Spain and the loss of the reputation of the referee team".
After that, RFEF was forced to speak up. In the announcement of this organization, there is a passage: "We are extremely sorry for the tone and severity of the criticism and charges, affecting the honor of the referees as well as the common activities of the tournament.
The nature of the referee's task is to be considered before being analyzed. However, those actions cannot be the cause of their accusations of integrity. This not only reduces the reputation of the referee team, it also spoils the image of Spanish football".

Before submitting the complaint, Real Madrid called on President RFEF Rafael Louzan to resign. Real Madrid TV is also where Los Blancos often criticize the refereeing in La Liga. In March 2024, RFEF opened an investigation after receiving a complaint from Sevilla. The team said that Real Madrid TV posted a video accusing two of the referees in charge of the match against Real Madrid of biased action for Sevilla.
