According to Spanish media, Manchester United has expressed interest in Julian Alvarez, the striker currently playing for Atletico Madrid. Previously, both Arsenal and Chelsea closely followed the situation of the 2022 World Cup champion.
After leaving Manchester City, Alvarez quickly affirmed his value when scoring 29 goals in his first season at Atletico Madrid. Although his performance this season sometimes stagnated, the 26-year-old striker still managed to end his goalless streak with a goal in the big win against Barcelona in the domestic cup.
In England, the need to strengthen the attack makes many big teams interested in Alvarez. Arsenal once recruited Viktor Gyokeres but the effectiveness is not stable, while Chelsea still wants more options to compete with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. At Old Trafford, there are still many doubts surrounding the expensive contract Benjamin Sesko.
Despite receiving many offers, Alvarez is said to prioritize moving to Barcelona if he leaves Atletico. However, this deal is considered complicated, because the fee could be up to £100 million and the two teams are also competing in La Liga. Atletico is therefore making efforts to extend their long-term contract to end the speculation.
Former player Emmanuel Petit highly appreciates the Argentine striker. He said: "He can score and assist, move intelligently, is physically strong and possesses techniques suitable for top European clubs. If Arsenal has the opportunity to recruit him, it will be a very good addition and a strong statement.
While waiting for the future decision of the main striker, Atletico will enter the Champions League play-off round against Club Brugge, before returning to La Liga to face Espanyol. The championship hopes of Simeone's team are almost closed when they are far behind Real Madrid in the rankings, making Alvarez's future even more unpredictable.
