In the 23rd round of the Premier League, Liverpool traveled to Bournemouth with the determination to find victory after a series of consecutive draws, but soon fell into a difficult situation. The opening goal came from a careless defensive situation by Virgil van Dijk.
Because of bad weather, the Dutch center-back misjudged the drop point of the long ball, missed clearance and created conditions for Alex Scott to assist Evanilson to score. After the match, Van Dijk frankly mentioned the weather factor: "The first goal was very difficult to predict in those circumstances, the wind was very strong.
I think you have seen that when we play long balls there, it is very difficult to predict. So conceding like that is not a big problem, but it is not a good thing.
Liverpool continued to concede a second goal, before rising up strongly. Van Dijk himself redeemed his mistake with a header from a corner kick, while Dominik Szoboszlai scored from a direct free kick, helping the away team equalize 2-2.
The Liverpool captain emphasized the importance of the goal he scored: "Conceding two goals in a short period of time is not good at all. The goal I scored before the break was really important to create momentum for the second half and I think we showed that.
However, Van Dijk and Liverpool's efforts were still not enough. In the last minute of the match, Amine Adli scored to seal a 3-2 victory for Bournemouth. The Dutch center-back could not hide his disappointment: "We tried very hard to equalize, we had a free kick and some great opportunities, but in the end, that curling shot cost us money. I am very disappointed. The goal conceded in the last minute of the match was unacceptable".
This defeat still puts Liverpool in fourth place, but faces the risk of being surpassed by many opponents, before they return to the Champions League in the middle of the week.
