Today (July 18), the draw ceremony for the AFC Women's Champions League (AFC Women's Champions League) 2024-2025 took place at the Asian Football Confederation headquarters in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). This is the first time an Asian club football tournament specifically for female players has been held.
Before the draw, the Naegohyang club (DPRK) withdrew, so the tournament will only have 21 teams competing. 8 teams entered directly, including Ho Chi Minh City I Club of Vietnam and 13 clubs had to go through qualifying rounds to find the final 4 spots to participate in the main round.
According to the draw results, Ho Chi Minh City I is in Group C with Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies (Japan), Taichung Blue Whale (Taiwan, China) and 1 team from the preliminary round. Ho Chi Minh City I is the host of Group B and is played under the cheers of fans at Thong Nhat Stadium.
Group A includes host club Wuhan Jiangda (China), Hyundai Steel Red Angels (Korea) and two teams that passed the preliminary round. Group B includes hosts College of Asian Scholars (Thailand), Melbourne City FC (Australia), Kaya FC – Iloilo (Philippines) and 1 team in the preliminary round.
The 4 strongest teams will be determined after the preliminary round to enter the group stage.
The Asian Cup qualifying round for women's football season 2024-2025 will take place in early August, while the group stage will take place from October 6-12. The top 2 teams in each group and the 2 third best teams enter the quarter-finals to compete for tickets to the semi-finals and finals.
Each team participating in the Asian Cup for women's football in the 2024-2025 season will immediately receive 100,000 USD when participating in the group stage. With each victory, teams will receive additional bonuses from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This is a source of encouragement for Ho Chi Minh City I as well as the teams participating in this year's tournament.
The champion of the tournament receives a prize money of up to 1.3 million USD.
