High-ranking delegation of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor visits and works with French General Confederation of Labor

At the invitation of the French General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor led a delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to visit and work in France from December 10-14.

At the CGT headquarters, the delegation had a meeting with CGT Secretary General Sophie Binet. Here, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong expressed her joy in visiting the French Republic after many years of interruption of high-level delegation exchanges between the two sides, and highly appreciated the cooperative, friendly and close relationship through many stages of the Vietnamese revolution; always remembering that in history, the CGT has participated in thousands of campaigns of French democratic forces against colonial oppression and exploitation, including Vietnam.

CGT also launched many struggles in support of Vietnam, from propaganda activities, street protests against the war to collective actions refusing to produce and transport weapons to Indochina.

At the meeting, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong also informed about the activities of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor since the beginning of the 13th term, the important results in the work of caring for, representing and protecting workers such as participating in the development of labor laws and policies, effectively performing the role of a member of the National Wage Council, focusing on dialogue and collective bargaining to increase wages and benefits for workers; the results of launching and organizing creative emulation movements among workers.

Secretary General Sophie Binet highly appreciated the important significance of the visit of the high-level delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Ms. Sophie Binet informed about the difficulties and challenges of the CGT in gathering and protecting the rights of workers in the context of multi-unionism in France, the policies of the French Government that are not beneficial to workers and unions, such as the promulgation of the Pension Reform Law which increases the retirement age from 62 to 64 for both men and women...

Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue promoting the cooperative, friendly and good traditional relationship through maintaining the exchange of high-level delegations, increasing the exchange and sharing of information, enhancing coordination to support and protect the rights of Vietnamese workers in France; paying attention to and creating favorable conditions for the respective trade unions of the two sides to establish and promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time; maintaining the mechanism of regular information consultation between the two sides and supporting each other in international forums and multilateral mechanisms.

During the visit and working session in France, the delegation had a working session with the French Institute of History and Society, the Paris and Neighborhood Trade Union, the Trade Union - Hotels - Restaurants and a number of economic and cultural establishments in France.
