Maintaining Soong Co singing and organizing festivals is how the San Diu people in Hai Lang commune (Quang Ninh) preserve and pass on cultural identity to future generations.

In Hai Lang commune (Quang Ninh), the San Diu ethnic people are actively preserving their cultural identity through maintaining folk song clubs, opening language classes, restoring folk games and organizing traditional festivals. These activities help San Diu culture take deep root in community life, according to the Quang Ninh Provincial Electronic Information Portal.

Currently, Hai Lang commune maintains 3 Soong Co singing clubs with over 70 members participating in monthly periodic activities. Along with that, the locality opened 4 classes to teach San Diu language for 94 students.

Mr. Luu Van Loc, Head of Soong Co Club in Ha Dong Bac village, said: "We maintain regular activities to preserve the Soong Co melody. Older people pass it on to younger generations, both learning to sing and learning ethnic languages.

In parallel with language, the locality restores many traditional folk games such as đánh gụ, đánh khăng, đi cà kheo, bắn súng chạc. During community activities, elderly people directly guide young people to experience in order to maintain traditional methods.

Through the loudspeaker system and people's meetings, the commune propagates to people to preserve writing, handicrafts and rituals such as initiation ceremonies and weddings. The government encourages people to organize weddings according to traditional customs and mobilizes families to use San Diu language in daily life.

In 2025, the festival takes place on November 29 and 30, attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate, helping to strengthen the connection between residential areas.

Mr. Luc Van Long, Chairman of Hai Lang Commune People's Committee emphasized: "We determine that cultural preservation must be associated with people's lives. Cultural values need to be maintained through regular activities, from which they can be promoted for a long time.

Maintaining the Soong Co tune, imparting voices, restoring folk games and organizing annual festivals is proof that the traditional culture of the San Diu people in Hai Lang is still being preserved and spreading strongly.
