In recent years, Quang Ninh has recorded many positive changes in promoting gender equality, especially in ethnic minority (DTTS) areas, according to the Quang Ninh Provincial Electronic Information Portal (TTĐT).
In the period 2021 - 2025, the province issued many mechanisms and policies directly aimed at vulnerable women and children in ethnic minority areas. Resolutions related to socio-economic development, social assistance, and voluntary social insurance support were implemented synchronously, bringing clear efficiency.
Notably, the content of gender equality is integrated into socio-economic development programs, helping this issue become practical instead of stopping at slogans.
A highlight is Project 8 - a program to solve urgent issues for women and children in ethnic minority areas. Through models such as community communication groups, domestic violence prevention clubs or "reliable addresses" at the grassroots level, many women have more places to share, be supported and protected.
According to actual implementation, changing perceptions is an important factor promoting gender equality. After applying synchronous solutions, many outdated customs are gradually being eliminated. The situation of early marriage has decreased sharply, in some places it has decreased by more than 97%; for many consecutive years, no cases of consanguineous marriage have been recorded.
Along with changes in awareness, the role of ethnic minority women in economic development is also increasingly clear. Many women boldly participate in production labor, master the family economy, access new technologies and try their hand in many fields instead of just being attached to traditional jobs.
The community tourism model at Ky Thuong Am Vap Farm is a typical example. Here, Dao ethnic women not only participate in labor but also become "cultural ambassadors", directly introducing traditional beauty to tourists. They are trained in skills to organize services, guide visitors and participate in experiential activities.
From being mainly dependent on agriculture, many women have created a stable source of income from their own national cultural values. This contributes to improving life and affirming women's position in the community.
Not only stopping at economic development, many models have also become a support for disadvantaged ethnic minority women. Typical is Linh's Crochet Trading Co., Ltd. in Yen Tu ward, a place that creates jobs, opens up vocational training opportunities, and trains skills for dozens of female workers who are ethnic minorities.
Here, each woman is guided according to her own ability to gradually perform handicraft stages. Sharing and accompanying have contributed to building a compassionate and equal working environment.
The above results show that when given opportunities and appropriate support, ethnic minority women can fully develop their abilities and make positive contributions to socio-economic development. Building gender equality in ethnic minority areas is therefore a long-term journey, requiring perseverance and joint efforts from the whole society.
