According to the Department of Culture of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize the Conference "Preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Khmer ethnic group" on May 22 in Can Tho city.
The event is implemented according to Plan No. 2262/KH-BVHTTDL dated April 24, 2026, expected to be held at Ninh Kieu Riverside Hotel with about 80 - 100 delegates attending.
The conference was chaired by the Department of Culture of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, the People's Committee of Can Tho City and 8 provinces and cities with a large Khmer population including: An Giang, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long.
The conference is organized to continue to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws for Khmer people in the current period.
In the context of integration and development, preserving the traditional cultural values of the Khmer ethnic group such as architecture, festivals, and folk performing arts not only has the meaning of preserving heritage but also helps to promote socio-economic development in the Southern region.
At the same time, the conference also aims to raise awareness of all levels and sectors about the role of culture in sustainable development, strengthen the great national unity bloc and promote community strength in the cause of building and developing the country.

According to the plan, delegates will focus on discussing many key contents such as reviewing and evaluating the core cultural values of the Khmer ethnic group that need to be prioritized for preservation; proposing solutions to link the preservation of identity with building a grassroots cultural environment; evaluating the effectiveness of state management in the field of ethnicity, religion and perfecting related mechanisms and policies.
In addition, the conference will also clarify the role of cultural and ideological work in building the people's security posture, maintaining political stability in the Khmer people's region; and at the same time promote the role of artisans, religious dignitaries and prestigious people in teaching and preserving cultural identity for the younger generation.
A notable highlight of the event is the field survey program at typical Khmer cultural preservation models in Can Tho city.
This activity aims to collect more practical data to serve the work of preparing reports, proposing solutions and completing policy recommendations after the conference.
Within the framework of the program, a space for displaying images and traditional cultural products of the Khmer ethnic group and local tourism promotion activities is expected to take place, creating opportunities for delegates and people to learn more deeply about the value of Khmer cultural heritage.
With the synchronous coordination between ministries, sectors and localities, the conference is expected to create positive changes in the work of preserving and promoting the cultural values of the Khmer ethnic group, contributing to promoting sustainable development and enriching the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
