Representatives of the Steering Committee of ministries, branches and 21 provinces and centrally run cities with seas have signed a treaty and committed to emulation against IUU fishing.

On August 12, the People's Committee of An Giang province coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing to organize the " Launching Ceremony of the peak emulation campaign against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing".

Attending the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army - Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing; Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung co-chaired.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc emphasized: The launching ceremony of the peak emulation campaign against IUU fishing, focusing on promptly preventing fishing vessels and fishermen from violating foreign waters. Contributing with ministries, branches and localities to implement the above determination of the Government, with the theme "Enhancing the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, cooperation, resolutely fighting and preventing IUU fishing violations".

Through the launch of the peak emulation campaign, the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing hopes for the coordination of the Steering Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Public Security and the IUU Steering Committees of localities with bottlenecks in propaganda, dissemination of legal education; information exchange; management of fishing vessels and handling of violations in a synchronous, practical and effective manner.

Senior General Thai Dai Ngoc suggested that localities speed up the process of reviewing and handling fishing vessels that have seriously violated IUU fishing that have been arrested and handed over by the military forces according to the provisions of law), to be completed before August 30, 2025.

Closely coordinate with functional forces to promote legal propaganda, ensuring vigilance and deterrence. Preside over and coordinate with forces (Border Guard, Coast Guard) to put high-risk fishing vessels under strict and mandatory management, not to be put into operation, to be completed before August 20, 2025.

Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung said that An Giang is a province in the southwestern region of the country, with an important strategic position, with a coastline of more than 200 km, a sea area of over 63,000 km2, and more than 143 large and small islands.

After nearly 8 years of implementing IUU fishing prevention and control, the results achieved have had many positive changes, recognized by the EC such as: completing the work of identifying and managing fishing vessel activities; regulations on the installation of VMS tracking devices being strictly followed; having many determinations in law enforcement; tracing the origin of fishing products is increasingly guaranteed...

The People's Committee of An Giang province is committed to working closely with the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing, central ministries, branches and the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities to synchronously and effectively implement the peak emulation campaign against IUU fishing in the country in general and in An Giang province in particular. Determined to join hands, be unanimous, overcome shortcomings and limitations, to soon join the whole country in removing the EC's "Y yellow card" warning.
