In the summer days, the campus of Huy Van Pagoda (Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward, Hanoi) becomes bustling with the sound of reading lessons and the laughter of young children. The free class includes Math, English, combined with Buddhist activities and experiential activities suitable for the age group.
The model currently attracts about 40 children in the area and surrounding areas to participate, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the pagoda grounds during the summer.
According to Nun, Dr. Thich Dam Luyen - Abbot of Huy Van Pagoda, the transition from a monastic training model to a cultural supplementary class aims to create more learning, playing and skill training space for children during the summer.
The pagoda wishes to create a useful playground for children to both study and play, and at the same time practice skills, know how to love, know how to share and have better orientations for the future," nun, Dr. Thich Dam Luyen shared.
Accompanying the pagoda in the process of organizing the class is the Youth Union of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward. Youth union members participate in arranging facilities, organizing collective activities and accompanying children throughout their studies and activities at the pagoda.
According to Ms. Le Thanh Thao - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward, the coordination with Huy Van Pagoda to organize classes aims to create a healthier environment for children to study and play during the summer.
Through the class, we want them to practice English skills, communication skills and teamwork in a friendly environment," Ms. Thao said.
Ms. Thao believes that the model is also an opportunity for union members and youth to practice skills in organizing activities and promote the spirit of pioneering and volunteering for the community.
As one of the union members directly supporting the class, Mr. Ngo Hoang Long said that the daily work of volunteers is to guide children during school hours, support play activities, prepare meals and take care of children during breaks.
What I find most meaningful is that children have more environment to study, play and connect with friends, instead of spending a lot of time using electronic devices," Mr. Long shared.
According to Mr. Long, the process of accompanying the class also brings many experiences and lessons for the union members participating in support.
Through the class, I can review knowledge, gain more experience in class management and receive a lot of positive energy from young children," Mr. Long said.
From the initial results, Huy Van Pagoda expects the model to continue to be maintained, expanded and spread to many Buddhist institutions in the coming time.
I hope summer classes like this will be replicated in many pagodas so that more and more children can study and train in a healthy environment," nun, Dr. Thich Dam Luyen expressed.
