According to the Lai Chau Provincial e-Portal, currently hostile forces and bad actors take advantage of social networks to propagate and lure people, especially ethnic minorities in remote and isolated areas, where socio-economic conditions are still difficult, to illegally exit to Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.
The purpose is to serve sabotage activities, even to entice participation in reactionary, terrorist, and separatist organizations abroad. Faced with that situation, the Internal Security Department (Lai Chau Provincial Police) coordinated with functional units and commune police to promote propaganda and mobilize people.
Through working with Mr. V.A. S (born 1990, residing in Chu Va 6 village, Binh Lu commune), who illegally resided in Thailand from October 2019 to his return home in July 2026, functional agencies determined that he had listened to the enticement on Facebook, sold all his houses and assets to bring his wife and 3 children to Thailand with the hope of having a better life.
However, after running out of money, the whole family had to work as hired laborers, living in temporary shacks, the children were not allowed to go to school, did not have personal papers, did not enjoy the local government's social security policies and always lived in fear of being detected and handled for illegal residence.
The Internal Security Department has coordinated with functional units and commune police to propagate, mobilize, and support citizens illegally residing in Thailand to return to their localities; and at the same time advise Party committees and authorities to create conditions for them to stabilize their lives and feel secure in working and production.
Reality shows that many people, because they are gullible and trusting, have listened to propaganda rhetoric, left their homeland abroad illegally and have to face a life of deprivation and precariousness in a foreign land.
Lai Chau Provincial Police recommends that people raise their vigilance, absolutely do not believe promises of a prosperous life abroad to exit illegally.
At the same time, Vietnamese citizens who are illegally residing in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar... need to proactively contact the diplomatic missions of Vietnam or the police force to be guided and supported in safe repatriation.
For cases of voluntary return, the police force will advise local authorities to pay attention to and create conditions to stabilize life and develop the economy.
