Digital transformation is becoming an important "lever" to help improve the quality of education in the highlands of Lao Cai. Electronic lectures, digital learning materials and artificial intelligence (AI) not only help students become more dynamic but also expand access to knowledge opportunities for mountainous students, according to VNA.
Recently, 3 students Nguyen Mai Minh Khoa, Hoang Minh Tuan and Ta Dinh Khanh Nguyen - Van Ban High School No. 4, Khanh Yen commune - with the "Highland AI Boys" team entered the top 30 nationwide and won the Promising Award at the AI Young Guru 2026 competition.
The product development group "Lao Cai Heritage AI", an AI application platform to introduce history, culture, scenic spots and support tourism discovery in Lao Cai. According to Nguyen Mai Minh Khoa, the idea originated from the fact that many cultural and historical values of the locality have not been systematically introduced on digital platforms.
The platform is built as a "digital guide", allowing users to look up relic information, local culture, listen to explanations, refer to schedules and interact with AI.
Mr. Cao Cuong - Vice Principal of Van Ban High School No. 4 - said that the valuable point of the project is that students know how to put technology into the practical problems of their homeland, using AI to support the promotion and preservation of local culture.
According to the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, in the period 2021 - 2025, digital transformation of education achieved many positive results. Currently, 98% of teachers have the ability to apply information technology in teaching; 965 computer labs are connected to the internet; 100% of general education institutions deploy digital school records and electronic transcripts.
In the period 2026 - 2030, Lao Cai is expected to spend about 900 billion VND from the central budget, provincial budget and socialized sources to strengthen the application of information technology and digital transformation in education.
By 2030, the province aims for 100% of educational institutions to have high-speed internet; 100% of general schools to have enough computer rooms; 100% of teachers to be trained in basic digital skills; 80% of students to be trained in digital skills. Lao Cai also strives for 20% of general schools to have STEM education practice rooms.
