Proactive prevention from accommodation establishments
As a border locality with 23 operating accommodation establishments, Thoi Son ward, An Giang province, poses a risk of being exploited by subjects to carry out acts of buying, selling, storing and organizing the illegal use of drugs.
Faced with that reality, the Ward Police advised the Ward People's Committee to build a "No Drug Accommodation" model, establish a Steering Committee, a Working Group and assign specific tasks to each member.

From there, 100% of accommodation establishments in the area are mobilized to sign commitments not to harbor or assist in violations of the law on drugs. At the same time, posters guiding the process of receiving guests, identifying suspicious subjects and handling situations are installed at each establishment.
Major Pham Duy Linh, Deputy Head of Thoi Son Ward Police, said that the implementation of the model is carried out synchronously, associated with propaganda, training and professional guidance to improve the efficiency of security and order management at accommodation establishments.
Joining hands to build a safe accommodation environment
After a period of implementation, the model has created a clear change in the awareness of accommodation business owners. From a psychology of hesitation and passivity, many business owners have proactively coordinated with the police force in managing overnight guests and detecting and denouncing crimes.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thinh, owner of Dong Nguyen Guesthouse, said that the establishment strictly implements the inspection of personal papers, fully declares accommodation and absolutely does not cover up acts related to drugs.

Through training classes, facility owners are also updated with knowledge about new types of drugs and skills to identify suspects.
Ms. Pham Ngoc Yen, owner of Ngoc Anh Guesthouse, said that the model helps business establishments feel more secure because of the close coordination of the police force in ensuring security and order.
Not only facility owners, many staying guests also appreciate the model. Mr. Nguyen Truong Son said that when he saw the "Say No to Drugs" criteria list posted at the motel, he felt more secure when choosing to stay.
In parallel with propaganda work, the Ward Police also coordinate forces to participate in protecting security and order at the grassroots level, military and border guards to strengthen patrols and inspections at key routes and areas; regularly inspect and guide professional operations for accommodation business establishments.
Thanks to that, many violations were detected and handled promptly, contributing to preventing the risk of the emergence of complex drug spots.
Towards the goal of "drug-free wards
According to Major Pham Duy Linh, in the coming time, the Ward Police will continue to review subjects related to drugs, resolutely eliminate points of buying and selling, organizing illegal drug use; strengthen inspection of conditional business establishments.

At the same time, advising the Ward People's Committee to expand the security camera system, build "Pharmaceutical Schools", "Pharmaceutical Hamlets and Villages" models and promote propaganda on local digital platforms.
From the initial results, the "No Drug Accommodation" model is affirming its effectiveness in drug prevention and control in border areas. Close coordination between the police force, accommodation businesses and people not only contributes to maintaining security and order but also creates a foundation for Thoi Son to move towards the goal of building a "no drug ward" by the end of 2026.
