On March 26, information from the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Nghe An province said that the work of preventing and combating early marriage and consanguineous marriage in the area in the past time has been deployed synchronously, initially achieving positive results.
Accordingly, many solutions have been implemented such as strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people to change their perceptions, eliminate outdated customs; building model points at the grassroots level; promoting the role of village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people in the community.
Departments, branches, and mass organizations coordinate to organize many propaganda conferences in key areas, especially ethnic minority areas. The Women's Union and the Youth Union maintain happy family models, pre-marital clubs, contributing to raising awareness for people, especially teenagers.
The education sector also strengthens student management, especially in boarding and semi-boarding schools, promptly grasps thoughts and circumstances to have support measures, prevent the risk of early marriage, and ensure the right to education for children.
Reality shows that the situation of early marriage in the area has tended to decrease year by year, some localities no longer have consanguineous marriages. However, in some remote and isolated areas, this situation still occurs due to the influence of customs, awareness and socio-economic conditions.
According to statistics, in the period 2015 - 2025, the whole province recorded 2,094 early marriages and 87 consanguineous marriages. However, the number of cases has tended to decrease year by year, from 198 early marriages in 2015 to 95 cases in 2025; the situation of consanguineous marriage has basically been eliminated.
In the coming time, Nghe An will continue to strengthen coordination between levels and sectors, promote propaganda associated with handling violations, enhance the role and responsibility of local authorities, and gradually reduce and move towards ending early marriage.
