According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, from the beginning of 2026 to now, the weather situation in Quang Tri has been extremely complicated. Prolonged intense heat has sharply increased the demand for bathing and playing of people and students in river, lake, and beach areas. This poses an extremely high risk of river accidents.
Alarmingly, 21 drowning incidents have continuously occurred in the province, claiming the lives of 25 people. In the period from March 15 to now, the whole province has had 16 drowning accidents, killing 16 people. These are painful figures, putting child safety at red alert.
To proactively prevent and minimize loss of life, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requests departments, agencies, branches and local authorities to decisively intervene. Units must urgently review and thoroughly handle locations at high risk of accidents such as ponds, lakes, and deep pits of works; and immediately install warning signs and safety barriers.
In particular, due to the time when students are preparing to enter the summer vacation, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to closely coordinate with families to strengthen life skills and safety skills in the water environment. Schools are required to promote the swimming teaching movement, sign three-party commitments between School - Family - Student to manage and closely supervise students during the school holiday months.
The commune-level police force coordinates with localities to organize inspections and strictly handle violations of safety regulations in risky areas, not allowing prolonged management laxity. At the same time, localities with eco-tourism spots and beaches must arrange rescue forces to be on duty regularly to promptly respond when incidents occur.
