Quang Tri strives to search for and repatriate martyrs' remains in Laos

Quang Tri - The search and repatriation of martyrs' remains continues to be coordinated by Quang Tri and Kham Muon in the upcoming dry season.

On May 18, in the working program in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Quang Tri Provincial Special Working Committee held talks and signed a memorandum of coordination to implement the task of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains in the dry season 2026 - 2027 with the Kham Muon Provincial Special Working Committee.

The delegation of Quang Tri province was headed by Mr. Le Van Bao - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Special Affairs Committee.

Attending the talks, on the Khammouane province side were Mr. Det Sac Da - Ma Ny Kham - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Government Committee, Head of the Provincial Special Work Committee as head of the delegation; along with members of the Provincial Special Work Committee and leaders of relevant departments, agencies, and sectors.

On the side of Quang Tri province, there was Colonel Truong Nhu Y - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Military Party Committee, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, member of the Provincial Special Affairs Committee; leaders of relevant departments, agencies, and sectors attending.

At the talks, the two sides assessed the results of coordination in the search, exhumation, and repatriation of remains of volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who sacrificed in Khammouane province in recent years, especially in the 2025-2026 dry season.

The Special Affairs Committee of Khammouane province acknowledged and highly appreciated the spirit of responsibility of Team 589, Political Department, Quang Tri Provincial Military Command in the process of performing tasks.

Not only striving to overcome difficulties to search for and repatriate martyrs' remains, cadres and staff of the unit also actively help local people; organize medical examinations, health consultations and free medicine distribution for people, contributing to fostering the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the talks, Mr. Le Van Bao expressed his deep gratitude for the righteous and sincere assistance of the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of Khammouane province who have always created favorable conditions for Team 589 to successfully complete its tasks.

Mr. Le Van Bao expressed his wish that in the coming time, the Special Task Force of Khammouane province will continue to closely coordinate and direct forces to support the provision of information and create favorable conditions for the search, repatriation and repatriation of martyrs' remains to achieve higher efficiency; with the determination to bring heroic martyrs back to their homeland and Fatherland.

After nearly 8 months of implementing the 2025 - 2026 dry season task, with the active support of the government, armed forces, village elders, village heads and local people, Team 589 has searched and collected 16 sets of remains of martyrs in many areas in Khammouane province.

This result shows the spirit of responsibility, the effective coordination of the Special Task Forces of the two provinces, and the determination to overcome difficulties of officers and staff of Team 589 in performing special political tasks.

On this occasion, the Special Affairs Committees of Quang Tri and Kham Muon provinces signed a memorandum of coordination to implement the task of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains in the dry season 2026 - 2027; and at the same time presented gifts, strengthened the special solidarity, friendship and strategic linkage between Vietnam and Laos.
