On May 19-20, Major General Nguyen Van Thien - Deputy Commander of the Border Guard (BGB) - led a working delegation to inspect the results of reconnaissance tasks, drug and crime prevention, border gate work in 2025 and the first 4 months of 2026 at the Quang Tri Provincial BGB Command, Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station and La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station, according to VNA.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command, in 2025 and the first 4 months of 2026, the unit successfully fought many major cases of drugs and crime. In the first 4 months of 2026 alone, the force handled 344 cases with 356 subjects; prosecuted 19 cases with 24 subjects; administratively sanctioned 270 cases with 286 subjects.
Units strictly maintain the process of inspection and control of entry and exit; promote administrative reform, effectively implement electronic border guard procedures, and ensure security and safety in the border gate area.
At the Lao Bao international border gate border guard station, the unit regularly patrols and controls the area, trails, and open paths. In 2025 and the first 4 months of 2026, the unit presided over and coordinated to detect and arrest 22 cases with 25 subjects. In which, functional forces arrested 13 drug cases with 13 subjects, seizing 61,348 synthetic drug pills and 20kg of drugs.
In 2025, the unit carried out entry and exit procedures for 755,972 people, 273,500 vehicles and about 2.4 million tons of goods. In the first 4 months of 2026, the border gate received 358,378 people, 132,516 vehicles and about 1.7 million tons of goods; detected and handled 127 cases with 128 violations.
At the La Lay international border gate border guard station, functional forces coordinated to patrol the border line and landmarks in 22 phases; patrolled to protect the area 68 times; inspected temporary residence and temporary absence 46 times. The unit maintains coordination with the border protection force and the Lao border gate police in information exchange, bilateral patrols and crime prevention and combat.
La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station discovered, arrested, and handled 29 cases with 35 subjects; seized 2 handguns, 92 bullets, 26 synthetic drugs, 174kg of fireworks and 1,400 liters of diesel oil. The unit also prosecuted 1 case with 1 subject for the act of illegally transporting military weapons.
Speaking at the inspection, Major General Nguyen Van Thien praised the achievements of Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard and border gate units. At the same time, he requested units to continue to do a good job of collecting, analyzing, and forecasting the situation; strictly manage the area and border gates; proactively grasp the activities of all kinds of crimes on the border line.
Major General Nguyen Van Thien also requested forces to focus on establishing key areas and targets; strengthening the collection of border gate data, grasping the activities of businesses and transport vehicles passing by to effectively serve the work of fighting and preventing crime, protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security.
