On July 16, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City informed that the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Catholic Solidarity Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, led by Father Anton Nguyen Dinh Thuc - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Catholic Solidarity Committee of the City, came to lay wreaths and offer incense to commemorate Father Gioakim Nguyen Ba Luat at the Cemetery of Pastors of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City.
Father Gioakim Nguyen Ba Luat is a patriotic pastor, attached to the people and actively participated in the struggle for national independence. He used to be an advisor to the Southern People's Committee, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Catholic Federation of Southern Vietnam and Vice Chairman of the Southern Catholic Resistance Committee; at the same time, he was a propagandist, a patron, encouraging and supporting officers and soldiers of Battalion 307.
With special contributions to the revolutionary cause, Father Nguyen Ba Luat was awarded the Second-class Independence Medal by President Ho Chi Minh and was posthumously awarded the title of Martyr by the State. On November 27, 1951, on the way to hold a wedding ceremony for a newlywed couple, he was assassinated by the French colonialists.
The memorial activity is an occasion to show gratitude to a martyr who lived fully the spirit of "respecting God, loving the country", attached to the nation, serving the Church and compatriots. The life, dedication and sacrifice of Father, Martyr Gioakim Nguyen Ba Luat will forever be the pride of Vietnamese Catholic compatriots, contributing to brightening the tradition of "living the gospel in the heart of the nation to serve the happiness of compatriots".
