On July 13, at Lam Dong Martyrs' Cemetery (Cam Ly ward - Da Lat), Steering Committee 515 of Lam Dong province organized the implementation of taking remains samples and digitizing information to serve DNA testing for martyrs whose identities have not been identified.
Attending were Ms. Pham Thi Phuc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; Mr. K'Mák - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Minh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of departments, branches and localities.
Lam Dong Martyrs' Cemetery is currently the resting place of more than 2,000 heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation and defense of the Fatherland. Among them, 651 graves have not been identified.
To perform the task, the Provincial Steering Committee 515 established 5 working groups and simultaneously conducted excavation, sampling and digitization of information at the graves.
Before deployment, delegates offered flowers and incense at the Memorial and martyrs' graves, expressing their respect and gratitude to the heroic martyrs.
After the ceremony, the working groups proceed to update data right at the scene, including the location of the grave, content of the tombstone, specimens and related documents to serve management, storage and DNA testing.
The excavation process is carried out in accordance with technical procedures using specialized tools, ensuring to minimize impact on the current state of the tomb.
The task force carefully peeled off each layer of soil to approach the remains, and continuously updated digital data.
After that, the remains are transferred to a separate sampling area. Doctors perform sampling in hygienic conditions, use full protective clothing and select suitable samples according to professional requirements for DNA testing.
According to the plan, the DNA sampling for 651 graves of unidentified martyrs at Lam Dong Martyrs' Cemetery is expected to be completed before July 21.
