Vinh Long exploits sea advantages, develops new growth engine

Possessing a long coastline and mangrove ecosystem, Truong Long Hoa ward is being oriented to become a driving force for marine tourism development of Vinh Long province.

With a coastline of 13.5km along with many unique cultural, historical and ecosystem values, Truong Long Hoa ward, Vinh Long province has a lot of room for marine economy and ecotourism development, according to VNA.

Truong Long Hoa ward has an area of more than 56km2, with a population of about 16,000 people. Prominent in the locality is Ba Dong beach tourist area - one of the familiar beach tourist destinations of the Mekong Delta. Wide beach, airy space and rich seafood resources create conditions for developing resort tourism, community tourism and culinary experiences.

The locality also owns many cultural and historical works such as Truc Lam Zen Monastery in Tra Vinh, Con Tau Weapons Receiving Wharf, Con Trung Temple, Con Tau Ong Mausoleum, Co Hy Thuong Nuong Cave. The mangrove forest ecosystem, coastal casuarina trees and areas growing watermelons, shallots, sweet potatoes, peanuts open up the potential for developing ecotourism and green agriculture. Wind power projects also contribute to creating landscape highlights for the area.

In recent years, transport infrastructure connecting with the locality has continued to be completed through National Highway 53, National Highway 53B and the coastal corridor.

According to Secretary of the Party Committee of Truong Long Hoa ward Nguyen Trong Nhan, the locality welcomes about 150,000 visitors each year. However, most tourists only visit during the day due to the lack of accommodation, entertainment, shopping and typical experiential products.

In the coming time, the locality orients the development of marine tourism associated with the marine economy; attracting investment in resort projects in Ba Dong; developing cultural tourism, agricultural experience and OCOP product introduction points. At the same time, the locality strengthens links with neighboring areas to form a chain of unique tourism products.

According to Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Duong Hoang Sum, the coastal area of Truong Long Hoa and Duyen Hai ward are converging many conditions for developing marine tourism, resorts, ecology and cultural - historical experiences. The two localities are oriented to link into a chain of coastal destinations of the province.

Many key projects are being implemented to create more development momentum. Among them, the project to renovate the Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee base in Duyen Hai ward in the period 2025 - 2028 has a total investment of 140 billion VND. Con Tau weapons receiving wharf national relic currently welcomes more than 9,000 visitors per year and is being proposed to be added to the special national relic complex of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea.

Secretary of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee Tran Van Lau requested departments and branches to review the planning of coastal areas, effectively exploit the economic advantages of the sea, tourism, protection forests and cultural and historical values. The province also emphasized the requirement for development associated with environmental protection, response to climate change, saltwater intrusion and landslides to move towards long-term sustainable development.
